Walk and Talk Therapy

As an alternative to meeting in a room or online I offer 'walk and talk therapy' which means exactly what it says, we walk and we talk outside.  This therapy works very well for people who feel they can open up more outdoors or feel constrained by indoor settings.  Furthermore, during these uncertain and concerning times of Covid-19, it can feel a safer option for some.

Walk and Talk therapy would begin with us meeting initially online (Zoom or Skype) or at The Practice Rooms in Cheltenham where we would discuss how we'd like to work.  This would include talking through the practicalities (location, weather preparations), boundary considerations as well as your goals for the session.

For some people walk and talk therapy is an initial session that leads on to a course of outdoor sessions, or possibly deciding they'd prefer to work indoors or online.  For others, walk and talk therapy can be used to work through a single issue over one or two sessions.

Benefits:

  • Being in natural environments are sooting as they support our nervous systems to relax which in turn helps to ease anxiety and reduce rumination.
  • Exposure to natural light, fresh air and and light exercise enhances a general feeling wellbeing.
  • Can develop mindfulness skills, as there are multiple opportunities to tune into sensory information from your senses.
  • Explore creative ways of working such as using elements of the natural environment to assist in the therapeutic process.
  • Walking side by side means there is less eye contact, which for some feels a lot more liberating, freeing and more comfortable than sitting opposite one another in a therapy room.
  • Is suitable for most individuals as you set your own walking pace e.g. a gentle stroll or a brisk pace.

The location can be mutually agreed however good options I suggest are Painswick Beacon, Ebworth or Selsley Common.  Sessions are an hour and on a sliding scale from £50 - £60.
