Couples Counselling in Cheltenham & Online
Although being in an intimate relationship can bring joy and nourishment there's no doubt it can be painful and difficult at times. When things aren't going so well you may feel confused, upset, or frustrated. If you've felt unhappy for a while, you could be questioning the relationship and even wondering if it's worth continuing with.
There are many reasons why people seek couples counselling. Perhaps the relationship has changed and there is a sense you're growing apart. Or maybe you're exhausted from too many disagreements and arguments. It could be that you're struggling with issues around communication, sex, or intimacy.
As a couples therapist, these are some of the common themes and issues I can help you with:
Whatever the challenges you're facing as a couple, I can help you explore these issues in more depth. Couples counselling creates a space where you can come together to really listen to one another and be heard. We can explore your patterns of relating, how you get stuck, and what will help you move forwards. I'm committed to understanding how life is for each of you, without blaming or taking sides.
When difficulties occur it is common to get caught in a cycle of blame, criticism, and resentment. Couples can often feel stuck with little hope things will change. I believe that by brining attention and care to the relationship new possibilities can open up. I can help you to connect to your feelings, identify needs and explore the underlying issues. I have various exercises and tools to support communication, intimacy and connection.
The more we open to another the more likely it is that our fears, insecurities and old wounds will emerge. I can help you to understand how unresolved issues from your past effect your relationship. Together we can explore what is needed to help your relationship grow or, as sometimes is the case, how best to end. Overall my aim is to help you to create nurturing and fulfilling relationships that support your wellbeing.
